Veteran director Mahendran, best known for his films such as Mullum Malarum, and Uthiri Pookkal, has breathed his last at his residence earlier today. He was 79, has been critically ill for the past few days and was undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospitals.
John Mahendran, son of Mahendran, confirmed the news on his Twitter page earlier today.

Mahendran was recently seen playing the role of Malavika Mohanan’s father in Superstar Rajinikanth’s Petta directed by Karthik Subbaraj. He also played the villain role in Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri directed by Atlee.
