Rajkumar Periasamy clarifies OM: Chapter 1 is a standalone story, opens up on Mammootty and Sai Abhyankkar

The director confirms that the story concludes within the first chapter, while sharing insights into Mammootty’s role and the film’s journey from conception to production.

Director Rajkumar Periasamy has shared several details about OM: Chapter 1, clarifying that the film is not part of a serialized narrative despite its title. He also spoke about Mammootty’s character, music composer Sai Abhyankkar’s contribution and how the project came together with Dhanush.

Addressing the title, Rajkumar Periasamy explained that audiences should not expect a sequel simply because the film carries the subtitle Chapter 1. He confirmed that the story reaches its conclusion within this chapter itself, making it a complete narrative rather than the beginning of a continuing series.

The director also offered insights into Mammootty’s character, stressing that the role should not be viewed through the conventional image of an underworld don. His comments suggest that the character has greater depth and dimensions than the familiar portrayal often associated with such figures.

Speaking about Sai Abhyankkar’s involvement, Rajkumar revealed that the composer joined the project even before filming began. He praised Sai’s talent and methodical approach to work, adding that the composer had introduced nuanced musical elements into the film. He also hinted at tracks that could generate considerable discussion among audiences.

Rajkumar further addressed speculation surrounding Dhanush’s possible entry into politics. He said the actor’s primary focus remains cinema and pointed out that Dhanush has already planned his professional commitments up to his 60th film. With the actor also working in languages beyond Tamil, the director said he had no information suggesting that Dhanush was considering a political career.

Recalling how OM took shape, Rajkumar revealed that the story had been ready since the time of his debut film, Rangoon. After completing the Kashmir schedule of Amaran, the director found some time between the film’s subsequent shooting schedules. During this period, he learnt that Dhanush was listening to scripts and decided to meet the actor at his residence to narrate the idea.

According to Rajkumar, Dhanush responded positively to the story and immediately contacted the producer in Mumbai to confirm that they would make the film. At the time, the teaser of Amaran had not yet been released, and Dhanush had only watched Rangoon. The director chose to keep the development private until Amaran reached audiences. Following its release, the team began working on OM in full swing.

OM Chapter 1, gears for its grand worldwide release on Novemeber 20th.
