Producer Gnanavel Raja has stepped down from his current post of General Secretary in Tamil Film Producers’ Council to participate in the election of Chennai Tiruvallur Kanchipuram Districts’ Film Distributors Association, where he will contest for the post of president.
“My friend Ashok Kumar’s suicide has deeply affected me. I will not let another suicide happen in the industry. After examining his suicide clearly, I realized that the entire industry is ruled by a mafia of two to three people. I want to break that and make the industry a level-playing field for everyone present here. So, I have decided to contest the president post. I have already started received threats for my decision, but I’m least bothered by anything. All I care about now is the welfare of the industry,” said Gnanavel Raja in a statement.
Gnanavel’s next production Thaanaa Serndha Koottam starring Suriya and directed by Vignesh Shivn is gearing up for release for Pongal 2018.
