Buckle up for the new entertainment avenue in Chennai- Amma Theaters!

Here is an enthralling news for moviegoers. Chennai will get 15 brand new theaters built by the Tamil Nadu Government as per the order passed in Budget 2014 in the assembly. It will be called ‘Amma Theaters’ and they are likely to be constructed in city’s arterial places such as Anna Nagar, Maduravoyal, Nungambakkam etc.

At the pilot stage, 15 theaters will go under construction soon and likely to be ready by the end of December. It will be equipped with air conditioning facility with subsidized ticket prices. Sources say tickets could be slashed to as low as 25 INR. But, the disappointment facet of this new avenue is theaters will only showcase movies which are certified U. Isn’t it the responsibility of the government to provide space for alternate film-making and parallel cinema? This move could be detrimental to some film-makers who never compromise on their work but undoubtedly a boon to the general populace.
