Vairamuthu to be conferred with Gnanapeeth Award in Malaysia

Poet-lyricist Vairamuthu will be conferred with the Gnanapeeth Award by the Tansri KR Somasundaram Literature Foundation based in Malaysia. His novel Moondram Ulaga Por has been declared as the best novel written in recent times by the jury members. The foundation revealed that there were totally 198 literary works under contention from various countries across the world. A grand felicitation function is organised on September 7th, 2014 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to honor Vairamuthu.

“I consider this as Gnanapeeth Award at the world level. This work was written with an intention to fill the lacuna left by the time. The degeneration of the world of farming because of global warming and globalization is the content of this novel. To light up the human thought to warn the great danger that the world would encounter in the next century was the content. I wish to thank Donsri Soma Linguistic Literary Foundation for understanding my pain and for worrying about the Humanity,” says Vairamuthu to a daily.
