Jinguchaa: Singers – Vaishali Samant, Shakthisree Gopalan & Adithya RK 👍

A celebratory wedding track to start off the album – AR Rahman ensures that it is catchy as it can get, and is a song that immediately gets onto our minds. There is so much energy and newness in the singing approach that makes the track an enjoyable listen, and Vaishali Samant truly gathers the attention with her rendition. It may feel a bit noisy at places, but still, a fun song worth many repeats.

Sugar Baby: Singers – Alexandra Joy, Shuba & Sarath Santosh; RAP – Shuba

A track that feels like it is least interesting one from the album, with a very washed out composition except for the catchy ‘Enna Venum Unakku’ portion and the male singing. Rahman has gone back to the style of Hello Mister Edhirkatchi, but it does not work best.

Muththa Mazhai: Singer – Dhee 👍

Outstanding. Rahman hits it out of the park with a song that blends sufi, carnatic and orchestral notes together, resulting in a goosebump-inducing number. Dhee on the vocals is a slight bump, as she does not deliver the lines entirely well, but still, it works out superbly. This is a track which will go on to become of the biggest stayers of the album.

Vinveli Nayaga: Singers – Shruti Haasan & A.R. Ameen; RAP: Prashanth Venkat 👍

Trust AR Rahman to always bring in sounding that is new and novel, he does it again with Vinveli Naayaga, an astounding song from the album that has so many interesting levels in it. The song does not abide by the usuals of an elevation track, and bangs the best beats out of a superhero-like number. And Shruti Haasan – she glides through with an excellent rendition.

Anju Vanna Poove: Singer – Charulatha Mani 👍

Another generational song from the album, one that will stand the test of time. Emotional, world class, beautifully rendered – all in one. It is like AR Rahman brought together all of his minimalistic songs and then added a touch of his own new glory to it. More of an experience than a song, but boy, this one’s special.

O Maara: Singer – Paal Dabba 👍

When ARR goes fun, it works out fun. Paal Dabba working with Rahman may not be in our list of expected combinations, but Rahman has surprised us. The song has a normal start, but towards the end, there’s a hook line that keeps repeating and keeps impressing.

Engeyo: Singer – Rakshita Suresh

A pretty good track that works out well with Rakshita’s vocals. Not long standing but good enough.

Let’s Play: Singer – Thoughts For Now

A formulaic rap track that does not sit on our minds immediately, it might work out better with the flow of the film.

Anju Vanna Poove (Reprise): Singer – A.R. Rahman 👍

A reprise of the superb track from the album, and AR Rahman ensures that he has all our attention again. There’s so much warmth in how his vocals bag the attention, despite him staying on low pitch for the majority of the song.

Once again, the combination of AR Rahman and Mani Ratnam give us a wonderful album that stands strong amidst the albums they have handed us, over the years. Thug Life ensures that it comes with a load of novelty, long list of singers, excellent orchestration and a fantastic impact that has already made it the album of the year so far.
