Reviving handloom has become my mission: Samantha

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has said that reviving handloom has become her mission. “I must confess that reviving handloom has become my mission and it is giving me a lot of purposes. As an actor, over the many years, I have been blessed to have a lot of love and affection. But of late, I have realized that it’s not been just because of the movies alone. What we do on-screen and off-screen has a great impact on people,” she said.

“I visited a number of villages in Telangana this year and interacted with a lot of weavers. They earn one tenth of the price at which their products are sold. It was disheartening that in the towns and cities where this art once thrived is now fading away. The young generation does not want to take up the profession because of the low income. The existing weavers migrate to cities for another means of livelihood, they are laborers in the city, watchmen in your houses,” she added.

Samantha recently launched a signature clothing store called Tweave to sell handloom at affordable prices.
