Mari Selvaraj reveals how he drew inspirations from Masaan for Pariyerum Perumal

Pariyerum Perumal is easily one of the most memorable films of 2019, for the pathbreaking content which it provided in the most beautiful narrative possible. Anandhi’s character of Jo in the film is a huge talking point even today, for the positivity it carried throughout. At the audio launch of Mehandi Circus, director Mari Selvaraj revealed that he went crazy about actress Shweta Tripathi’s role in Masaan, and had drawn inspiration from her ever-smiling character while writing Pariyerum Perumal.

Mari also said that since he doesn’t know Hindi or English, he believed that it would have been tough to convince Shweta herself to work in his film. “I wished that somebody introduced her here and taught her the language so that I could work with her after 4-5 films. I am happy that it has happened with Mehandi Circus,” he said.
