Interview with Amy Jackson – the dazzling diva!

Amy Jackson’s infectious energy is something you should see it to believe it. She is candid, lively and quite animated. In this free-wheeling chat with Only Kollywood, Amy Jackson talks about Thanga Magan, Vijay, Dhanush, Theri, Gethu and a lot more.

Excerpts:

Can you hark back a little and recall your debut in Indian cinema?

It was few years back and I was in America and I won the Miss Teen World and director Vijay just saw this one particular picture that went viral. So, obviously the press for the pageant went viral like internationally and he saw this picture and said ‘Okay, this is the girl I want for Madrasapattinam and then he was casting for the rest of the British family. A few weeks later, I and my dad were in Chennai shooting for the film. All of a sudden, it did well and got me more roles and am here today being busy.

Is Dhanush really a Thanga Magan?

This title is so apt. I’m a big fan of him. He is very real as a person and a bundle of talent as an actor. His confidence makes you confident and I think that’s great. From an actress’s point of view, when he comes and acts out a scene, it is so helpful. It’s a pleasure working with him and hope to work in the future.

“Thanga Magan is the most easy-going shoot I worked on, having no tension in your head. Velraj is a passionate film-maker. He believes in what he does and I think that’s brilliant. He is the captain of the ship and inspires everyone with his energy. I play an Anglo-Indian girl in the film. Andrea has dubbed for me and she has done a really good job, her voice added life to the character.”

You have worked with Samantha back to back in Thanga Magan and Theri. Do you have combination scenes?

We do have combination scenes in Thanga Magan but not in Theri. Very emotional scenes. Samantha is a pretty girl. She is very sweet and cool. She is just beautiful in the inside as she is outside. She is such a nice person and on top of that, she is talented.

Why should one watch Thanga Magan?

It’s a complete family entertainer. And all Dhanush fans will be delighted to see this. The film’s got bromance, action, comedy, love and sentiment. Comedy part with Sathish will be really enjoyable.

Working with Radhika..

Radhika is so warm as a person, a fantastic actress, it was lovely working with her. I was so happy when she was praising me. She is a big star in the industry, I was so happy that she is happy with me.

Anirudh Ravichander..

I’m a super fan of Anirudh. A real big fan. I think Thanga Magan is one of his best albums. It’s a beautiful romantic album. With great picturisation and music, I think it will work.

You are known for your fashion statements. And your costumes were the cynosure of all eyes in I. How was it working with Mary E Vogt?

Mary E Vogt is fantastic. I loved working with her in I. Every day, I used to have three to four costume changes and it was crazy. But, in Thanga Magan, you will see me in casual wears. More Salwars and simple costumes. It’s good. It doesn’t make you feel typecast.

Is there anything particular you look out for before choosing scripts? You have been selective.

I look for good scripts and narrations. I should be able to do justice to my role. I think that’s vital. Otherwise, I don’t plan anything. I just go with the flow and my instinct as far as choosing films.

Theri..

Everyone talks so much about Theri. Everyone asks me so much on the film (grins). Great experience. And working with Vijay is just phenomenal. He is very sweet and kind. A lovely-looking guy. He is completely different when the camera is on. His transformation will amaze you.

You excelled in dance choreography in Shankar’s I alongside Vikram. How was it grooving alonside Vijay, who is the best in the business?

We haven’t started shooting for songs yet in Theri. We are starting in January. I’m looking forward to dance alongside Vijay. I hope it will be exciting and fun.

Playing a Tamil Brahmin in Gethu

Yes, I play a Tamil brahmin in Gethu and will come totally in ethnic wears. I have earlier worked with Red Giant and Udhay in Madrasapattinam. Now, he is a hero. Udhay is a sweetheart. We had great fun shooting for the film. I love my character. She is very naughty. Gethu is an action thriller shot in international standards at great locales.

GV Prakash composed for your debut film. Are you aware that you are part of his 50th film (Theri)?

Oh, is it?? It’s his 50th film and how he is so young! His compositions for Madarasapattinam was beautiful and I’m so excited to see what he has in Stock for Vijay in Theri.Working with GV was so fantastic, he has got the vision, the passion. I will be shooting next month for songs and I really look forward to it now.
