Dream Factory’s win-win distribution strategy for Kaaviya Thalaivan

Dream Factory, a joint film distribution and marketing company started by CV Kumar, Gnanavel Raja, Elred Kumar, Sashikanth, Abinesh and Lakshman Kumar, has adopted a new, win-win distribution strategy for their upcoming film Kaaviya Thalaivan which is all set to hit screens on November 28th. They have sold the distribution rights for the film in Madurai and Trichy area through Non-Refundable Advance method unlike the conventional Minimum Gurantee method which is largely prevalent in Tamil Nadu.

NRA is a long-followed practice in Tollywood and this is the first time a Tamil film is reportedly said to have adopted this methodology. Minimum Guarantee method has been considered a harmful practice of late since it demands distributors to pay a hefty sum upfront and this becomes more awful when huge star films turn out to be duds at the ticket window. There have been instances where distributors failed to recover their MG amount and faced substantial losses. Also, there are few occasions where actors like Rajinikanth and Vijay have paid out of their own pockets to compensate distributors for the losses incurred. Whereas in NRA method, distributors and producers agree upon a consensus and pay a non-refundable initial amount. And, the collection the movie mints after the initial amount will be equally shared between the producers and distributors.
