50% occupancy in theatres from April 10th, will more films go to OTT?

Just as Dhanush’s Karnan hits the screens today, the TN government has put out an order which brings back the 50% occupancy rule in theatres from the 10th of April. The government brought up this rule as a method to curtail the rising COVID-19 cases, which are a worry at this point of time.

This could mean that film producers have to get back to square one, with decisions to be made on when they can release their films and more importantly where – theatres or OTT platforms. Many producers are already toying with the idea of sending their films to OTT, in order to avoid the uncertainty and struggle with a theatrical release.
