Vetrimaaran clears the air on Simbu project and Vada Chennai sequel rumors

Vetrimaaran clarifies Simbu film’s link to Vada Chennai, dismisses rift with Dhanush through a video!

Director Vetrimaaran has addressed recent rumors about his upcoming film with actor Silambarasan (Simbu) and its supposed link to the Vada Chennai franchise. Following delays in the production of Vaadivaasal starring Suriya, Vetrimaaran began work on a new project with Simbu, leading to speculation that it might be a sequel to Vada Chennai. The buzz intensified after photos from a promo shoot in Chennai featuring Simbu went viral online.

Amid these rumors, reports suggested a fallout between Vetrimaaran and actor-producer Dhanush, who owns the rights to the Vada Chennai characters and storyline through his production house Wunderbar Films. In a video statement, Vetrimaaran cleared the air, stating that while his upcoming film is set within the Vada Chennai timeline, it is a new story and not a direct sequel.

He explained that he had an open discussion with Dhanush regarding the rights. “I told him that I’d like to make this film within the Vada Chennai world, but if that’s not possible, I’ll treat it as a standalone story,” Vetrimaaran said. Dhanush, in response, fully supported the director’s vision and said, “Do whatever works best for you. I don’t want a single rupee for it.”

Vetrimaaran expressed disappointment over false narratives on YouTube and emphasized that his relationship with Dhanush remains strong. He added that their bond cannot be affected by a single film or situation. Reaffirming his stance, he stated that no one can pressure him creatively and dismissed all circulating rumors as baseless.

With this, the filmmaker has put an end to the speculation and assured that his collaboration with Simbu is progressing as planned – with Dhanush’s blessing and no rift between them.
