Musical treat awaits us; Ghibran opens up about Uttama Villian

Directed by Ramesh Arvind, Uttama Villain boasts of a star-studded cast and the film has already grabbed eyeballs since Kamal Haasan is playing a dual role. For composing music for the eighth century period in the film, Kamal Haasan has purchased some musical instruments from Malaysia for Ghibran to provide authenticity. “We are mixing traditional tunes with orchestral symphony backgrounds and fusing them with villupattu and theyyam. In fact, veteran villupattu artist Subbu Arumugam sir was involved with the sound design of one song. He has played for the song with his troupe as well. We have also recorded with theyyam artists from Kerala,” reveals Ghibran.

Kamal Haasan has sung three songs in the film so far and is likely to sing one more. “There is a mythical segment in the film, and we are recording with some ancient instruments for this. We have used some Malay instruments for a song. Kamal sir actually bought three-four instruments on his own from Bali, Indonesia. They might or might not have been in use in Tamil Nadu in those days but we are taking creative liberties here because these instruments sound both Indian and exotic,” adds Ghibran.
