Once in a blue moon, Tamil cinema comes out with a near perfect film that gets its storyline, emotions, performances, technicalities and everything right. While we have been missing that sort of a film in Kollywood’s recent past, here comes Tourist Family.

The crux of Tourist Family is about how a family who start off as refugees from Sri Lanka end up in Chennai, and how they try their best to fit into the society. The film takes us through their episodes step by step, dipping us deep into the emotions and making us feel like another member of the family itself. The first half of the film is smartly balanced with comedy and feel good moments, culminating at the interval point which is a peak in terms of the emotions that it brings. As we get into the second half, Tourist Family is even smarter to steer away from the usual tropes of the genre and takes its own route to showcase the power of goodwill and love towards the society. It’s interesting how the film, albeit being a bit predictable, is able to keep us invested in its characters throughout and rewards us with all kinds of emotions within the space of just two hours. Debutant director Abishan Jeevinth hits it out of the park with this highly impressive outing indeed!

Sasikumar did well in Ayothi, but this is new high as an actor as he looks, feels and performs superbly in the film. We loved how he gets a different kind of elevation film for himself at this stage of his career, and you’ll understand why we say this when you watch the film.

Simran gets her best part in her second innings, while Mithun has done well. The highlight of the film is the young boy Kailash who gets a big load of funny moments to his name and brings the roof down. Tourist Family is also excellent in the way it brings together a fabulous cast – MS Bhaskar, Kumaravel, Yogi Babu, Ramesh Tilak and everyone else are solid.

Tourist Family gets a superb score in the form of Sean Roldan’s songs and BGM, which both aid the proceedings superbly. All in all, it’s a beautiful film which shouldn’t be missed out in theaters.

Tourist Family Movie Rating: 4/5
