vijay 58 movie film title copyIlayathalapathy Vijay is long-known for doing medium budget movies which in turn fetch huge profits for all the stakeholders involved. Even his biggest blockbusters were made at a budget of Rs. 60-70 Crores till date. Surprisingly, Vijay has opted for a very lavish budget for the first time in Puli, which according to the industry sources, is close to Rs. 100 Crores. It is said that he was very impressed with Chimbudevan’s vision and the script demanded this kind of a budget for its gigantic Sets, rich production values and a stellar technical finesse. With Vijay’s long-standing PRO PT Selvakumar and the popular Kerala distributor Shibu Thameens jointly producing this extravaganza, Puli is eagerly awaited by not only his fans, but distributors and exhibitors too.

Brand new makeover

vijay msg to fansThat Vijay has a mighty potential to do character-driven roles is beyond question. Vijay has been under criticism for a very long time for not trying different get-ups in his movies. In an old interview, Vijay wittily remarked, “I tried some get-ups personally in my home but they looked awkward. So I don’t want to take risk by applying those in my films“. Now, he has come out of his comfort zone when his fans needed him the most. Yes, after a long wait, it is going to happen finally, to some extent. Vijay’s character in Puli is said to be that of a Warrior. Ever since this news surfaced on the web, fans of the actor have been making pictures showcasing Vijay in a warrior look, clearly indicating that they are also waiting to see a fresh Vijay for the very first time. Though not a big change, it definitely looks like a beginning for one of the many changes to witness for fans.

Fantasy and time-travel genre

vijay shrutiThe scripts for Vijay Movies have never been complex. He has always been more an actor who is comfortable essaying roles that a common man would like than a performer who goes out of his skin to carry the film on his shoulders and appease critics and the change-craving filmbuffs. He preferred romance genre in the early stages of his career before Thirumalai gave him a total transformation as an action hero. Vijay has been selective in choosing films especially in the last few years but that didn’t make him come out of his comfort zone. But, with Puli he has made a major decision and decided to venture into a new genre. vijay hansika vijay 58 copyPuli is said to be a fantasy-based commercial entertainer which also dwells into the time-travel genre. PT Selvakumar earlier clarified in an interview that Puli is not a full-fledged fantasy flick, but a commercial entertainer with a tinge of fantasy elements that form the fulcrum of the plot. Chimbudevan is a cartoonist by himself and we hear that he has narrated ‘Puli’ script to Vijay with an interesting storyboard that had sketches of each and every scene drawn by him. Sounds fascinating? It should. It will be a gem of a product in Vijay’s career if the paper-to-screen transformation succeeds.

An all-India star cast and a substantial crew

kiccha sudeep sridevi vijay 58 copyEver since it was announced that Puli will have Sridevi and Sudeep in its cast, there has been perpetual buzz on the film. For films involving big stars, it’s become imperative now to do profitable business not only in their home state but also in the neighbouring states to expand their market. Sridevi’s comeback to Tamil cinema is thirstily awaited and the excitement has multiplied since it’s going to be in a Vijay movie.
On the other hand, Sudeep, who made heads turn with his performance in Naan Ee, is a leading actor in Sandalwood and has a sizeable market for his films in Karnataka. With Sudeep and Sridevi on board, Puli is expected to release in record number of screens everywhere. And, Vijay’s unrivalled business in Kerala needs no introduction for he has registered remarkable box-office numbers in the state time and again. Vijayakumar, Prabhu, Imman Annachi, Thambi Ramaiah, Sathyan and Karunas to name a few form the supporting cast.

Chimbudevan has also assembled a strong technical crew featuring some of the top talents in the industry. Multiple national award winner Sreekar Prasad is at the helm of editing. Muthuraj, who impressed everyone in Shankar’s magnum-opus I, takes care of art direction and Natty, best known for his collaborations with Anurag Kashyap in Bollywood, handles the camera. While Devi Sri Prasad composes music, Vairamuthu pens lyrics for all the songs in the film. Dilip Subbarayan, who is incharge of the stunt department, has roped in phenomenal stuntmen for the film. Sang Lin from China, the stunt co-ordinator of the Transporter Hollywood franchise, Pradit Seeluem from Thailand and Sunil Rodrigues, who worked in films like  Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year, are also part of the film.

Eye-popping graphics in a Vijay film

vijay hansika shruti haasan vijay 58 copyWhen we talk about graphics in Tamil films, the first person who comes to our mind is undoubtedly director Shankar and his memorable collaborations with VFX Specialist Srinivas Mohan. He can be easily termed as the “Godfather of Graphics” in Kollywood. Chimbudevan, being a former assistant to Shankar, has also shown some interest in graphical gimmicks in his previous movies. With Vijay as the spearhead and a big budget in hand, Chimbudevan has decided to extend his wings and scripted Puli in such a way that it boasts eye-popping graphical elements. Signals from the ‘Puli’ unit refer that the film will be technically top-notch and ‘first of its kind’. As far as Vijay’s films are concerned, only Nanban had few glimpses of graphics in its songs which left the audiences wanting for more. If Puli has more of it as being reported, it will be a delightful experience for both Vijay’s fans and general movie buffs.
