Thalainagaram 2 Movie Review

Sundar C’s Thalainagaram directed by Suraj was an enjoyable film, and is remembered for its comic sequences featuring Vadivelu. In the second instance of the film, we get the same title but here is a violent gangster drama, which is in total contrast to the first part.

Thalainagaram 2 is based on the character of Right (Sundar C) and his fight against three big baddies of the city, namely Nanjundan, Vamsi and Maaran. The film is about how a goodie-two-shoes in the form of Right gets into the bad books of the three gangsters, and fights his way out. Director VZ Dhorai, known for his films such as Mugavari and Nepali, has totally gone out of the way with this film, which comes with a very outdated screenplay and making style. It’s as if the director has even let go of his basic skills, which were present in his more recent films such as 555 and 6 Candles, which were quite watchable. Thalainagaram 2 is largely boring for most parts, and there are just a handful of good scenes in the film, which majorly come only in the second half.

Sundar C is an actor who can be used in good touch, but director Dhorai gives him a very plain and blank role to play, which cannot be done much with. The film also has Pallak Lalwani in a good role, but does not realize her full potential.

It is surprising to see Ghibran’s name as the music composer, as there are no signs of his brilliance in the film. The technical factors otherwise are just at par too.

On the whole, Thalainagaram 2 is a sequel which just could have been avoided. There is nothing much to say about this forgettable film.

Verdict: A mostly boring gangster drama that does not offer much.
