“Someone who inserts loops is not a composer,” says Sean Roldan

Musician Sean Roldan says Isaignani Ilaiyaraja has written all his music by himself and he has every right to claim copyrights for his compositions.

“Story-tellers and script assemblers are not the same. If a composer writes all the notes by himself, he has every right to ask. Some composers ask singers to come up with their tunes and tell flutists to improvise on their own. Unless you write your music, how can you ask royalty? But, Ilayaraja sir has written everything by himself. A serious composer should get his due. Someone who inserts loops is not a composer. So, unless a creator is serious, he cannot claim royalty. Otherwise, he will look like a fool,” Sean Roldan told Only Kollywood when asked the recent tiff between Raja and SPB.

Sean Roldan’s music has received unanimous acclaim for his recent outing Power Paandi, which has released today in theaters.
