In these times which are filled with action films, thrillers, crass comedies and what not, only one film out of 100 trusts that the audience will still love and respect a well-made romance film, and arrives with the same. Hanu Raghavapudi’s Sita Ramam is just what the romantic film fan was waiting for years, bringing about a tale that is sure to tug our heartstrings and make us emotional with the characters and the story that it has.

Sita Ramam tells us the story of Ram and Sita, two individuals who meet at an unforeseen juncture, and travels on parallel paths in life. Whether Ram and Sita’s beautiful love story meets a beautiful end is the base line of the film, told with many interesting characters, situations, splendid locations and a visual experience that takes us back by 40 years in time. The film, right from the start, makes no mistake in putting across its storyline and viewpoints without major dull moments, and does all the more to get us invested in the characters and feel for their emotions as well. There is so much to like in how all the characters get an arc of their own which works out superbly in the context of the film, and makes us feel how important they are to the bigger picture.

Dulquer is excellent playing the role of the army man, and he exudes so much confidence and charm for the entirety of the film. The actor once again ensures that no one else could have played this role better than him, and rules the roost with the portrayal of Ram.

At the same time, Mrunal Thakur is solid playing Sita, and the freshness that she brings to the table is what makes the film extra special. The icing on the cake turns out to be Rashmika, who has a well-written role that carries itself confidently for the entire film. Sumanth also has a good part to play, and does very well in it, making it the right break for him.

Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music is soothing on the whole and has an Ilaiyaraaja’ish feel to it totally. The film benefits big time from its awesome cinematography and visual aesthetic, taking us into the grand world that the makers have created.

Credit to Hanu Raghavapudi for holding his confidence in a story like this, and he certainly pulls it off wonderfully. Sita Ramam is a modern day classic that should be watched on the big screen. Get ready to travel back in time!  Sita Ramam Movie Review by Siddarth Srinivas
