Prestigious honor for Venkat Prabhu’s Chennai 28

Venkat Prabhu must be on seventh heaven right now. Acclaimed English writer James Walsh has picked Venkat Prabhu’s cult film Chennai 28 among five of cinema’s most memorable cricketing moments in the presitgious The Guardian publication. The film was juxtaposed with Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lady Vanishes, Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lagaan, Stacey Diamonds’s I Know How Many Runs You Scored Last Summer and John Boorman – Lasee Hallstrom directed Hope and Glory.

Chennai was a trendsetter in churning out a full-fledged sports film in Kollywood with a heady cocktail of love, friendship, cricket and revenge. It provided a break to Venkat Prabhu and he became youth’s favorite ever since. Mirchi Shiva, Jai, Vaibhav went on to do lead roles in many films after Chennai 28. Venkat Prabhu is currently busy shooting Surya – Nayanthara’s Masss, which also has Amy Jackson in an important role.
