Ponniyin Selvan becomes highest Tamil grosser of all time in USA and UK

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan has not only breached records in Tamil Nadu but is also the year’s highest overseas grosser as it has broken records all round. The film has now overtaken 2.0 to become the highest Tamil grosser of all time in the USA. This is the first time in more than 25 years that a film has overtaken the spot of a non-Rajini film in the USA, as celebrating Superstar Rajinikanth’s films was a ritual in the country.

Ponniyin Selvan has also become the highest Tamil grosser in the UK, and has also beaten other biggies of the year such as RRR and KGF2 to emerge as the #1 film of the year in the country. The film’s overseas collections have rocked the world, and it is now sitting on a huge profit with the entirety of the second part’s collections set to come out as a bonus.
