Plot & Narration
An old, templatized tale
Muthina Kathirikka is a fairly working film in the fun segments. Director Venkat could have worked more on paper for this team which is highly capable of delivering.

Muthina Kathirikka is an official remake of the Malayalam Blockbuster Vellimoonga which had Biju Menon in the lead role. We had taken only 25% from the original and tailor-made the script which suits for our audience, said Sundar C in an interview. Venkat Raghavan, one of the long term associate of Sundar C is debuting as director with Muthina Kathirikka and has partly managed to make use of the opportunity given to him.
Muthu Pandy (Sundar C), who is 40+ years old, unmarried, unpopular political cadre being an elder son in the family is running his life with an untold ambition and by cunning activities on his comedy enemies. VTV Ganesh and Singam Puli are Sundar C’s political enemies in the village and the first half runs by pulling their legs among each other along with Sundar C’s one-sided romance with Poonam Bajwa.
Vaibhav makes his entry in the interval block as Poonam’s fiance and how Sundar C succeeds all the hurdles through him is what Muthina Kathirikka all about. Sundar C is undoubtedly apt for this role, but what could have been better in this tailor-made script is the fun factor. Though we cannot expect anything serious in this all fun-filled cast, the lack of some engaging comedies and the old-template presentation could be a barrier for the film’s final verdict.
Toting up, Muthina Kathirikka is a fairly working film in the fun segments. Director Venkat could have worked more on paper for this team which is highly capable of delivering.
