‘Melody Queen’ P Susheela sets foot in Guinness World Records

Legendary playback singer P Susheela, who has won five national awards in her career spanning six decades, entered the Guinness World Records for recording the most number of songs in Indian film industry. “Pulapaka Susheela Mohan, India(B. 1935) has reportedly recorded upto 17,695 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs in over six Indian languages since the 1960s,” said the Guinness World Records certificate.

Interestingly, the adjudicators have taken into account only those songs sung from 1960s although Susheela started her singing career in 1951. It must be noted that Susheela won the first Best Female Playback Singer national award for the year 1969 when it was instituted.
