Mani Ratnam is my mentor, says AR Rahman

AR Rahman participated in the social networking site Reddit’s AMA yesterday and answered a fair number of questions from the fans. In his answer to a question asked by an ardent fan on the magic of his collaboration with ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, Rahman candidly replied saying, “Mani Ratnam is my mentor. When I work with him, it is beyond money, so we try to communicate in another plane totally. And it’s unfortunate that some of his movies don’t do well, but he is creative a genius and I respect him a lot.

And, Rahman has also revealed that he loves the work of recent sensation Santhosh Narayanan who composed for films like Attakathi, Cuckoo and Pizza. To a question asked by a fan on which contemporary music directors’ work he enjoys the most, Rahman answered, “There are many now, actually. I do like some of Preetam, Mithun’s work, and a new composer named Santhosh Narayanan.” Mithoon is one of the composers of the popular Hindi film Aashiqui 2.
