Kamal Haasan endorses a communist candidate

That Kamal Haasan has distanced himself from politics is a well-known fact. But to everyone’s surprise, the multifaceted actor-director has endorsed a candidate from Kerala who belongs to the  Communist Party of India (Marxist). The article was published in today’s Theekkathir, an official  daily of the CPM party. “Kamal Haasan urges the voters of Kollam lok sabha constituency to cast their votes for candidate M.A Baby and set forth an example for others in the nation,” says the message on Theekkathir.

Kamal Haasan also added in his wish note, “Friendship is Baby’s religion. I’m really proud to claim that I’m his friend. His zeal to bring progressive changes to various industries like arts, literature, music and cinema is equal to none in this nation. It is from this cultural consciousness his politics originated. He has a deep knowledge in science. I have always been impressed by his insights on cinema. Baby is a human who brings glory to humanity with his humanitarian approach. His victory is essential for the nation.”

Kamal has often hinted his love for communistic ideologies in his films earlier. The flashback character Nalla in Anbe Sivam is one such example. Also, this is the first time Ulaganayagan has openly voiced his support for a candidate in elections.
