Ilaiyaraja wins long legal battle against audio recording companies

Ilaiyaraja had filed a complaint on five audio recording companies – Agi Music Pvt Ltd, Echo Recording Company, Unisys Info Solution and Giri Trading Company – in Madras High Court for using his compositions on various platforms without paying him any royalty few months back. The court has now made permanent the interim injunction it granted against using his musical works last September.

Justice R Subbaih has said that Ilaiyaraja is the sole copyright holder for all his works and no one can exploit his works without paying him any royalty or inking a deal with the Maestro. He has composed over 4500 songs and his 1000th album Thaarai Thappattai will release soon.
