Highlights of Thala 55 in Gautham Menon’s words!

Gautham Vasudev Menon, the director of Thala 55, is the only person media gets access to for news and updates on the film starring Ajith, Trisha Krishnan and Anushka Shetty in lead roles. In his recent interview to Ananda Vikatan, Gautham has shared some interesting snippets about the film. Please find below the highlights of the interview!

• Earlier, Gautham Menon revealed few lyrics from a song and we reported about it here. “”ஒரு வெள்ளிக் கொலுசு போல இந்தப் பூமி சிணுங்கும் கீழ அணியாத வைரம் போல அந்த வானம் மினுங்கும் மேல” – Ajith sir liked Thamarai’s lyrics a lot and told me that this song sums up his entire character in the film. “This will not be a regular Ajith film,” insists Gautham
• To tell the story in a nutshell, hero begins his life in a wedlock when he is 28 years old and the narration traces the journey of his life for the next ten years till he becomes 38
• All the looks you see in the film were groomed by Ajith sir on his own after listening to the script. For an action block, he prepared his getup for over a month and inquisitively asked me if he looks OK
• Ajith sir learnt boxing and guitar since he felt it would be useful for the film. It was not after my insistence but out of his own interest to better the character he plays in the film
• When I requested Trisha to come on board, she was little hesitant and had apprehensions of being a second heroine. Even before I tried to convince her with my reply, she gave her nod. When I told Anushka about this, she was generous and told she’s willing to do Trisha’s role and was open for exchanging roles. Later, Trisha said “I know Anushka is a really good-hearted person. I’m fine with this role. Let’s go ahead”
• Now, the whole responsiblity of giving equal space to both women fell on me. I was worried a little and told Ajith sir about this. “Athalam neenga just like that panniduveenga,” he told
• “You are beautifully maintaining your physique. I feel like hitting the gym whenever I see you. You are my inspiration,” told Ajith to Arun Vijay, whose role is kept under wraps
• Ajith sir fans will love this film a lot. Here is a sample dialogue from the film – “Ovvovuru ammavum than pillai epdi irunthaalum azhagunu thaan solvaanga. Sila samayam poinu therinjum kooda solvaanga. Aana, en amma apdi sonnathu unmai”. The film is loaded with emotion and romance like this
• We have five songs in the film. Harris and I have taken meticulous care to make each one as an all-time hit. But, Gautham Menon earlier tweeted here that the film will have six songs.
• I have still not narrated the climax to Ajth sir. He even asked me “Jii.. Innum neenga climax sollala. Avalo ragasiyama vechirukeengala?”. I should prepare soon to disclose the climax to him!
