Ghajinikanth is a basic, passable entertainer that manages to entertain the audience partially with its comic set-pieces, which work majorly because of its casting choices. The film has Arya portraying a man with a serious case of mind diversion, and approaches the concept from a comic angle with his travails with the circle of characters in his life.
Director Santhosh P Jayakumar, after working his way round with two adult comedies, returns to tackle a family-friendly subject. As a remake of the Telugu hit Bhale Bhale Magidivoy, the premise of Ghajinikanth is set afloat very quickly, after which the story follows Arya and his way of getting successful in his love life. The first half is built very simply with some occasional comics, but the inclusion of actors like Sathish, Sampath Raj, and the surprise addition in Aadukalam Naren bear fruit in the second half where things work with some hilarious stretches.
Arya does what he can with his role, though there is lot of room for improvement which he could have used. Sayyeshaa comes in a stylish urban lady, looks great and performs well in the dance sequences. The presence of good supporting characters is Ghajinikanth’s best foot forward, for Sathish, Naren and Sampath along with Mottai Rajendran’s occasional presence become responsible for the laughs.
Technically, Ghajinikanth is decent, with Balamurali Balu’s music contributing fine numbers in Hola Hola and Karu Karu Vizhigalil.
Toting up, Ghajinikanth is a fairly enjoyable entertainer if you are looking out for a carefree watch at the theatres this weekend. Don’t expect something great, just chill out and try having fun!
