Director Gopi Interview: “Nayanthara’s character name is Madhivadhani, which was LTTE Prabhakaran’s wife’s name”

Director Gopi Nainar, who was earlier in the news for wrong reasons on various occasions, has made his debut directorial Aramm starring Nayanthara in the lead role. In this exclusive interview with Only Kollywood, Gopi talks about the film, working with the lady superstar and the core emotions of the story.

Aramm is morality, and justice is the most essential morality. Today’s society is full of bigotry and corruption. In Aramm, Nayanthara is the one who tries to be just, and she’s a district collector. There’s no need to explain the farmers’ situation today. How they deal with all the unjust done to them and what Nayanthara does to give them justice forms the story,” said Gopi about the film’s plot.

When asked about the character name of Nayanthara in the film, Gopi Nainar said, “LTTE head Prabhakaran’s wife name is Madhivadhani. Nayanthara’s character in the movie is associated with some sacrifice. We had around twenty names with such trait or history in consideration and finally zeroed in on Madhivadhani. The wives of all the men who do so much for the society have all made sacrifices of their kind. However, there is no politics behind choosing the name Madhivadhini for Nayanthara.”

The story of Aramm happens in a northern district of Tamil Nadu. “But we have shot the film in Aappoor near Paramakkudi in Ramanathapuram district in live locations. During shooting, people will throng in hordes to catch a glimpse of Nayanthara. We had hundreds of junior artists shooting for the film on major sequences,” said Gopi.

Gopi, who was asked to narrate the story of Aramm to Nayanthara by her manager Kotapadi Rajesh, who is also the producer of the film, says he was astonished by her commitment. “Nayanthara gave thirty continuous days for this film. Though she was too busy with other movies, we decided to dub with her own voice, but due to some complex situations, it didn’t happen,” he said. Famous dubbing artist Deepa Venkat has dubbed for Nayanthara in the film.

“Nayanthara’s determination and strong-willed mind are something I always admire. She imbibes the situation and the character and performs with great ease. She will always be punctual to the sets too. When I narrated her the story, she was the first one to come up with various suggestions on her makeover, costumes and look for the film. She had shown extraordinary interest in the project,” said Gopi.

The vital message of Aramm has been portrayed with hard-hitting dialogues, said Gopi.

Toting up about the film, Gopi said, “The future society will broadly be classified by the sect who trade and those who depend on them. In a country like India, those who depend on the traders will have to face a lot of difficulties in education, agriculture and, profession. And such a society will need leaders who are like Nayanthara in Aramm.”

Aramm is all set to hit screens tomorrow (Nov 10th) worldwide.
