Coolie Box Office Collection Worldwide: 151 CRORE opening makes it biggest tamil opener ever!
Rajinikanth’s Coolie smashes records with ₹151 Cr worldwide on Day 1, overtakes Leo, dominates overseas, and sets new Tamil Nadu opening day benchmark by surpassing 2025’s biggest opener Good Bad Ugly.
Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-anticipated film Coolie has stormed the global box office, delivering a historic opening and rewriting records for Tamil cinema. With a massive worldwide gross of 151 CRORES on Day 1, Coolie has officially become the biggest opener ever for a Tamil film, surpassing Leo (148.5 CRORES) which also came from the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial camp.
The momentum for Coolie was evident even before release, with over 100 CRORES earned through pre-sales. On its opening day, Coolie stormed the Tamil Nadu box office with a massive 31 CRORES, overtaking Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, the biggest opener of 2025 so far, to become the fifth highest Day 1 grosser in the TN’s history.
Coolie also saw remarkable numbers across South India. In Kerala, it grossed 9.75 CRORES, ranking second only to Leo among Tamil films. The film’s appeal extended far beyond domestic borders as well. In Karnataka, Coolie grossed approximately 13 crore, becoming the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in the state, just behind Leo. In the Telugu states, the film raked in an impressive 17.75 crore, while in the Hindi belt, Coolie registered a fantastic opening with a gross of around 6 crore.
In overseas markets, Coolie broke past records by grossing $8.75 million, becoming the highest-grossing Tamil film on Day 1 overseas, outpacing Leo’s $8.15 million. In North America alone, Coolie clocked an extraordinary $3.95 million, including $3.04 million from premieres, setting a new benchmark for Tamil cinema in the region.
In the UK, the film earned £450,348, beating The GOAT, while in Ireland, it collected £40,724, making it the second biggest opener for a Tamil film in the British Isles. Australia saw Coolie gross A$535K on its first day, securing the all-time top spot for a Tamil film, while in New Zealand, its NZ$77K opening places it second behind Leo.
The film also smashed records in Norway with 1,885 admits on Day 1 – the highest ever for a Tamil film in the region, overtaking Ponniyin Selvan 1 and Leo. In the Middle East (UAE-GCC), Coolie grossed $1.82 million, ranking third all-time behind Kabali and Leo. In Malaysia, Coolie debuts at #2 all-time behind Leo, earning an impressive RM3.2 million. Singapore saw the film earn SGD$480K, placing it third among Tamil openers behind The GOAT and Leo.
In Sri Lanka, Coolie claimed the second-highest Tamil opener spot, surpassing Leo, with The GOAT still holding the top rank.
With this monumental success, Superstar Rajinikanth becomes only the second actor in Kollywood history to deliver a 100 CRORE+ Day 1 worldwide, joining Thalapathy Vijay.
