Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan’s mega multi-starrer likely to begin only in 2027

With Nelson focused on Jailer 2, the much-awaited Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan collaboration is likely to begin production only in 2027.

The much-anticipated collaboration between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan under director Nelson appears set to take longer than expected to materialize. According to industry buzz, the ambitious multi-starrer project is likely to begin production only in 2027, as both the stars and the filmmaker remain occupied with their existing commitments.

Nelson is currently focused on completing Jailer 2, the sequel to the blockbuster action entertainer starring Superstar Rajinikanth. The film is being planned for a theatrical release in the final quarter of 2026. While the makers are yet to lock an official release date, September, the Ayudha Pooja holiday season in October, and Diwali are reportedly being considered as potential windows for release.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth has reportedly decided to continue his active presence in cinema for the foreseeable future. The veteran star is said to have charted out his professional commitments for the next three years, with a clear intention of collaborating with talented filmmakers and providing opportunities to emerging directors.

As part of his packed schedule, Rajinikanth is expected to commence shooting for director Ashwath Marimuthu’s upcoming commercial entertainer by the end of June. The project has already generated considerable excitement among fans, given the director’s growing popularity and the prospect of seeing the Superstar in a fresh commercial outing.

With Jailer 2 progressing steadily and multiple projects lined up, Rajinikanth continues to remain one of the busiest stars in Indian cinema. Fans will now have to wait a little longer for the highly anticipated on-screen reunion of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, which is shaping up to be one of the industry’s biggest cinematic events.
