Salambala: Singer – Sai Abhayankkar 👍

A catchy & upbeat “breakup” song where Sai Abhyankkar brings the much-needed energy & swag to an otherwise Anirudh’s trademark fast-paced track through their first-time collaboration. We’re keen how this partnership between Sai and Anirudh evolves in the future as we definitely don’t want it to be a “one-off” collab and (in terms of placement) we don’t even have to say why this song exists is in this album/movie. It’s for those who enjoy a dance number or just do foot-tap while listening to music.

Vazhiyiraen: Singers – Anirudh Ravichander, Kwame Fyah 👍

Taking cues and inspiration from a lot of his previous hit tracks like Kalyana Vayasu (from “Coco”), Tharamana Single (from “Darbar”) & Chaleya (from “Jawaan”) comes Vazhiyiraen, a groovy dance-pop love song sung by Anirudh with fusion of different western genres thrown into the track. It is one of those “signature” tunes for why everyone loves Anirudh these days. The song will definitely be on loop for many listeners and on radio stations.

Madharaasi Theme: Singer – Anirudh Ravichander

Song begins with shades of building tension and mystery and shifts to a dark background score as the pipe instrument tune (possibly oboe or clarinet) hits along with Anirudh repeatedly singing “Am a Madharaasi, Nalla Madharaasi”. The song is too short and abruptly ends with a dubstep note.

Unadhu Enadhu: Singers – Shilpa Rao, Ravi G

Shilpa Rao carries this romantic track with her beautiful vocals. The song blends elements on western and classical fusion that we have been familiar with Anirudh’s filmography. We expect this track to be one of those “montages” in the movie that will be used to show the romance development between the lead characters (or we could be proven wrong).

Animal Instinct: Singer – Anirudh Ravichander

Yet another short background score infusing a fusion of tribal beat and electronic sounds. Possibly one of those tracks that you can/will skip and may not appeal us until we see it visually.

Usura Uruvi: Singer – Ravi G 👍

A very powerful emotional piano ballad voiced by Ravi G citing pain and grief experienced by the lead during the course of a loss. The song has beautiful vocals that hits beautiful high notes which aids in experiencing the intended emotion.

Madharaasi Flow: Singer – Kwame Fyah 👍

The 3rd Background Score which has a rap/hip-hop vibe and composed in collab with Kwame Fyah, a budding artist. The track is cut-short under a minute but our slient wish was to experience this as a full-length track, thereby adding the desired versatility to the album.

Thangapoove: Singer – Ravi G

One of those “Hit & Miss” tracks in our opinion. The song has a beautiful portion of melody throughout with Ravi G on the mic. It was only during the chorus sections and a part in the second verse which didn’t sit well in our ears, to an otherwise lovely track.

Mudinja Thodra: Singer – Anirudh Ravichander

The last track on the album signing off on high energetic note with another background score.

Overall, Anirudh has once again demonstrated why he is one of the most prolific music composers in Indian cinema today. While the songs in the album cater to a wide audience with their diverse genres and have broad appeal, the background scores fell short when compared to his previous work. Nonetheless, we anticipate a different level of impact when experiencing these tracks on the big screen once the movie premieres on September 5th.

Madharaasi Songs Rating: 3.25/5
