Coolie storms into 400+ crore club in just 4 days of worldwide box office; record-breaking opening weekend!
Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s explosive collaboration sets the global box office on fire with record-breaking openings and massive audience response across regions.

Superstar Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Coolie has made a thunderous impact at the global box office, grossing over 404 CRORES in just 4 DAYS. Released over the extended Independence Day weekend (August 14-17), the film has smashed records left and right, marking one of the biggest ever opening weekends for a Tamil film in history.
Coolie stormed through the home territory of Tamil Nadu with an astounding 90+ crore gross, and is on the verge of entering the 100 crore club in the state alone. The film has delivered a stellar performance in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, grossing over 50 crores and reaffirming Rajinikanth’s unparalleled appeal beyond Tamil Nadu. With this milestone, he remains the only Kollywood actor to consistently dominate the Telugu box office. Coolie also becomes only the fourth Tamil film ever to cross the 50 crore mark in the AP/Nizam region, following the superstar’s own blockbusters Endhiran, 2.0, and Jailer.
In Kerala and Karnataka, Coolie registered slightly modest numbers compared to its other territories, with collections standing at 21 crores and 30 crores respectively during its opening four days.
Internationally, Coolie has seen a phenomenal run. In North America, the film grossed over $6 million in its opening weekend. Australia saw Coolie rake in A$1.27 million, making it the biggest ever opening weekend for a Tamil film there, surpassing Leo. In New Zealand, it recorded NZ$141,841, ranking as the third biggest Tamil opener of all time in the region, behind 2.0 and Leo. The film continued its stronghold in Singapore, grossing SGD$1.27 million and taking the third spot among all-time Tamil openers, behind The GOAT and Leo. In the UK, Coolie collected £938K, marking the second biggest opening for a Tamil film after Leo. In the Middle East, Coolie grossed $4.05 million during its opening weekend, securing the third-highest debut for a Tamil film in the region, behind only Jailer and Leo. Norway saw 3,790 admits, placing Coolie as the fourth biggest Tamil opener behind PS1, The GOAT, and Leo. In Malaysia, it minted approximately RM9 million, while in Sri Lanka, the film earned $458K in its first week. In the UAE, Coolie witnessed an impressive 200K admits during its opening weekend, making it the fourth all-time highest opening weekend for a Tamil film in the region – standing just behind 2.0, Jailer, and Leo. With a total overseas gross surpassing $17.35 million (₹151.5 crore), the film continues its impressive run on the international stage.
With all these exceptional performances across domestic and international markets, Coolie has officially registered the biggest ever opening weekend for a Tamil film, beating the previous record held by Leo.
Among Rajinikanth’s films, Coolie is eyeing the massive benchmarks set by Jailer and 2.0. When compared to other Tamil blockbusters like Vikram, The GOAT, Ponniyin Selvan Part 1, and Leo, it remains to be seen how far Coolie will go in the race for lifetime collections. With over 375 crores grossed globally and with little to no major competition in the next couple of weeks, all eyes are now on how far Coolie will climb at the box office.
