71st National Film Awards: Parking breaks through with 3 awards, GVP gains a unique tag!

Tamil Cinema Triumphs at 71st National Awards with ‘Parking’ and GV Prakash; Shahrukh Khan finally honoured for ‘Jawan’

Tamil cinema shone bright at the 71st National Film Awards announced yesterday. It was highlighted by the big win for team Parking, a film directed by debutant Ramkumar Balakrishnan which was award the Best Tamil Film for its testament to compelling storytelling and creative vision. MS Bhaskar received the Best Supporting Actor award for his impactful performance in Parking. The film also won the award for the best screenplay.

In music, GV Prakash Kumar won the Best Music Direction (Songs) for Vaathi, marking his second National Award following Soorarai Pottru. He now joins the elite list of composers from Tamil who have won for both songs and BGM, a place where only Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman were there before.

Shahrukh Khan, one of Indian cinema’s most beloved icons, has finally added a National Award to his illustrious career, a milestone moment that has eluded him for decades despite countless iconic performances. This long-awaited recognition comes with Jawan, a high-octane, socially charged entertainer helmed by our very own filmmaker Atlee. Their collaboration not only broke box office records but also bridged cinematic cultures, making this win a proud moment for both Bollywood and South Indian cinema.
