Cheran to helm ‘Ayya – The Lion of Tamil Nadu’, a biopic on Dr. Ramadoss

Veteran filmmaker Cheran, who last directed the web series Cheran’s Journey in 2023, is making a comeback to direction with his first-ever biopic, Ayya – The Lion of Tamil Nadu. The film is based on the life and political journey of Dr. Ramadoss, the founder of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
The makers unveiled four posters showcasing glimpses of the 1987 Vanniyar reservation protests, writing, “His voice roared for the voiceless. Now, his story roars on the big screen.” The film explores Ramadoss’ early years, his emergence in politics, and his pivotal role in securing the 20% reservation for Vanniyars under the ‘Most Backward Caste’ category.
Aari Arujunan plays the lead, expressing excitement: “Honored to portray Dr. Ramadoss in this powerful journey. Thank you, Director Cheran and producer Tamil Kumaran!”
The cast remains largely undisclosed, including roles related to Anbumani Ramadoss, former Union Health Minister. Ekhambram, Sundaramurthy KS, and Pon Kathiresh lead the technical crew. A release date is awaited.
