Will Rajinikanth’s 2.0 really release in 56,000 screens in China?

In a tweet, Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman mentioned yesterday that 2.0 will release in nearly 56,000 screens in China on July 12th. The makers have also been claiming the same about the film’s release in the Middle Kingdom.

The PRC has a massive screen count of nearly 60,000 in the entire country. And for the Shankar-directed 2.0 to release in 56,000 screens would require complete domination of mainland nation’s 94% of screens, which is nearly impossible. Avengers: Infinity War, the world’s most expected film of 2019, witnessed only 75% of screenings on its opening day in China when it released this April. After the mega-blockbuster success of Dangal, Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar which released in 2018 January in China received nearly 56,000 shows on its opening day.

The entire 2.0 team has misinterpreted 56,000 screenings as 56,000 screens. Getting 56,000 screenings itself is a huge deal for a Tamil film especially since it’s the first ever Indian export in the sci-fi genre. The premiere of the film is scheduled to be held on June 28th. 2.0 is the fourth Indian title to land in China this year after Andhadhun, Mom, and Kaabil.
