War 2 Movie Review: A high-profile actioner that plays it too safe.

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, brings together Hrithik Roshan and NTR in what should have been a fiery north-south action spectacle. Instead, it ends up being a style-heavy but emotionally thin thriller that never fully lives up to its potential.

The film begins promisingly with a sleek action sequence set in Japan, where Hrithik’s return as Kabir feels impactful. His presence and flair are undeniable, and he owns the frame effortlessly. But beyond that, the story quickly falls into a predictable rhythm. The spy thriller setup is serviceable, yet the screenplay rarely offers anything fresh or gripping.

NTR enters with a lot of buildup, but his character is disappointingly one note. The writing doesn’t give him the space to bring out the intensity or range he’s known for. While his performance is solid, the role itself feels underdeveloped and leaves little impression.

Kiara Advani is barely given a role of consequence, and the supporting cast including Anil Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana are similarly wasted. Only a few set pieces in the second half manage to briefly lift the energy.

Technically, the film looks polished, but the visual effects occasionally falter, especially during key chase sequences. Pritam’s background score starts off well but loses momentum, mirroring the film’s own arc.

Despite a few entertaining moments, War 2 never hits the emotional or action highs it aims for. The chemistry between the leads feels surface-level, and the climax, though decent, isn’t enough to redeem the underwhelming buildup. War 2 had the star power and setup to deliver something big, but it settles for mediocrity. It’s better than Tiger 3, but still far from great.
