Actor Vijay Sethupathi has confirmed that he will make a cameo appearance in the eagerly awaited Jailer 2, reuniting him briefly with superstar Rajinikanth. The announcement came in a recent interview, where the acclaimed actor cited his admiration for Rajinikanth as the key reason behind his participation.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Vijay Sethupathi said that working with Rajinikanth was a “learning experience,” acknowledging the superstar’s enduring legacy in Indian cinema and his ability to stay relevant through decades in the industry.
Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, continues to expand its cast with notable confirmations. Prior reports have indicated that actors Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, SJ Suryah, Yogi Babu, Vinayakan, and Suraj Venjaramoodu have joined the sequel, adding to its ensemble appeal. There’s also a strong buzz that Shahrukh Khan will also be making a cameo appearance in this Nelson directorial.
Although a small role, Vijay Sethupathi’s cameo has already generated buzz among fans eager to see the celebrated actor share screen space with Rajinikanth again: their first collaboration since the 2019 film Petta.
The film’s production is still underway, with makers confirming a June 12th, 2026 release date. Jailer 2 brings back Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian, the no-nonsense police officer from the first film, and promises to continue the action packed legacy of its predecessor.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth confirmed earlier today, while interacting with the media on the occasion of Pongal, that his next film, Thalaivar 173, produced by RKFI and directed by Cibi Chakravarthy, will go on floors in April.
