Vijay Sethupathi leads Manikandan’s first action web series Kaattan

A gripping rural action drama where Vijay Sethupathi teams up with director Manikandan, blending raw emotions, intense conflict, and deeply personal storytelling in a powerful new web series.

JioHotstar has unveiled its upcoming Tamil slate, and one of the most exciting highlights is Kaattan, a raw and intense new web series featuring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. Directed by filmmaker M Manikandan, known for helming Kaaka Muttai, Kadaisi Vivasyi, the project marks his first full-fledged action venture for the OTT space, bringing a refreshing shift from his usual grounded dramas.

The first-look teaser sets an arresting tone, showing Vijay Sethupathi in rugged rural attire, surrounded by festival ambience, holding a sickle as he stands up to a wave of hostility. The visuals strongly hint at a storyline rooted in identity, conflict and emotional depth, all set against an earthy village backdrop.

Manikandan and Vijay Sethupathi reunite once again for this series, and the actor revealed that reading the script made him feel “healed,” indicating the kind of philosophical and introspective beats the narrative carries beneath its action-heavy exterior. The series is said to blend Manikandan’s signature realism with heightened drama and intense character-driven moments.

Kaattan also marks a return for Vijay Sethupathi to the web-series format, and expectations are already high thanks to the filmmaker’s reputation for distinct storytelling. While the makers are yet to announce an official release date, the show is expected to arrive on JioHotstar sometime in 2026.

With its rural setting, emotional intensity and Vijay Sethupathi’s commanding presence, Kaattan is already being touted as one of the most promising Tamil OTT titles in the coming year. Audiences now await further glimpses, including a trailer and a detailed cast reveal.
