Vetrimaaran’s influence shaped Sirai, reveals director Suresh Rajakumari amid strong early buzz
Sirai director Suresh Rajakumari reflects on lessons learned from Vetrimaaran, revealing how realism, character motivation, and work ethic shaped his directorial debut.

Sirai director Suresh Rajakumari has opened up about the formative lessons he learned while working under acclaimed filmmaker Vetrimaaran, and how those experiences have shaped his approach as a director.
Rajakumari, who makes his directorial debut with Sirai, recalled that one of the most important takeaways from Vetri Maaran was the emphasis on authenticity in storytelling. He noted that his mentor consistently focused on ensuring that every character in a film is grounded in reality, with clear motivations that justify their actions, regardless of the size of the role. This discipline, he said, has greatly influenced how he crafted Sirai.
The filmmaker also spoke about Vetrimaaran’s unrelenting work ethic, stating that his commitment to cinema remains unchanged despite his stature in the industry. According to Rajakumari, witnessing that dedication firsthand reinforced the importance of being deeply involved in every aspect of film making, from writing to execution.
Produced by Lalit Kumar’s 7 Screen Studio, Sirai has been written by Suresh Rajakumari along with Tamizh (Director of Taanakkaran & Marshal), another former assistant of Vetrimaaran. The film stars Vikram Prabhu in the lead role, alongside LK Akshay Kumar, Anishma Anilkumar, and Anantha. The technical team includes cinematographer Madhesh Manickam, editor Philomin Raj, and music composer Justin Prabhakaran.
Set for a December 25th release, Sirai has already generated strong positive buzz within industry circles. Industry insiders who have watched the film are reportedly raving about it, and early reactions suggest that 7 Screen Studio may have a winner on its hands.
