Veteran actor, director, writer, and filmmaker K. Bhagyaraj, one of the most celebrated storytellers in Indian cinema, passed away today following a cardiac arrest. Fondly hailed as the “King of Screenplay,” his sudden demise has sent shockwaves across the Indian film industry, leaving fans and colleagues grieving the loss of a true cinematic legend.

Just three months ago, the Tamil film industry came together to celebrate Bhagyaraj’s remarkable 50-year journey in cinema. The grand event witnessed the presence of several leading personalities, including Rajinikanth, Ilaiyaraaja, T. Rajendar, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, and many of Bhagyaraj’s co-stars and well-wishers, who paid tribute to his immense contribution to Indian cinema.

Bhagyaraj carved a unique niche with his exceptional storytelling, relatable characters, and engaging screenplays. His films blended humour, emotion, and social themes, making them timeless classics that continue to resonate with audiences across generations.

Notably, Mundhanai Mudichu, released in 1983, became the first Tamil film to gross over 1 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office, setting a historic milestone.
