The stage at Vels Festival – Nakshatra 2026 turned into a hub of major film announcements, as key updates about upcoming Tamil projects were unveiled during the celebrations. Producer Ishari K Ganesh shared a significant development regarding Kara, while filmmaker-actor VJ Siddhu offered fresh insight into his project Dayangaram.
Addressing the gathering, Ishari Ganesh confirmed that the much anticipated Kara, starring Dhanush, eyes for release in theatres on April 30, 2026. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause from attendees at the annual cultural event hosted by Vels University.
Directed by Vignesh Raja, Kara reportedly features Dhanush in the role of Karasaami, a cotton farmer whose life takes a dramatic turn amid conflict and adversity. The film’s early promotional material has already generated strong curiosity, particularly for its rugged tone and intense characterization. The project boasts a notable ensemble cast and an experienced technical team, with music composed by GV Prakash Kumar. With a firm release date now locked, anticipation around the film is expected to grow steadily in the coming weeks.
In a separate update at the event, VJ Siddhu revealed that actor Namitha will be making a cameo appearance in his upcoming film Dayangaram. The announcement added a fresh layer of intrigue to the project, especially given Namitha’s return to the big screen after a hiatus.
Dayangaram, which is in final leg of shoot, is said to draw inspiration from VJ Siddhu’s own life experiences, with Siddhu himself playing a central role in the film. The cameo by Namitha is expected to add both nostalgia and novelty, considering her popularity in Tamil cinema during the 2000s. The film also features a dedicated technical team and is shaping up as a distinctive offering under the Vels Film International banner.
The announcements at Nakshatra 2026 underline the active slate lined up by Vels Film International for the year ahead. With Kara heading toward a confirmed summer release and Dayangaram progressing with new casting developments, the production house appears poised for a busy and eventful 2026.
More official updates on both films are expected in the coming months as they move closer to completion and theatrical release.
