Veerame Vaagai Soodum takes the usual tropes of family sentiments and puts it into a generic crime backdrop, to deliver a passable action thriller that is quite engaging while it lasts.
The film has Vishal playing a man named Porus, a soon to be cop who is just waiting out his days to turn khaki. But then, few hindrances from from tags in the neighbourhood make it an issue for him and his sister to which Porus turns the tables and tries to fight off the Enemies. At the same time there are lot of other crimes going on the neighbourhood and the city which all come together in the form of a personal loss for the protagonist. From there on it is about how Porus find out the killers and takes revenge for him.
The first half of the film takes its own time to set up the characters introduce their problems, the other elements in the screenplay and the way in which the stories setup. It is only in the second half that the action starts to kick in in full force with Vishal taking on the baddies and getting his levels balanced. Do the elements here are somewhat interesting the way in which it is put across is in a laid back manner which gives us more time than needed to understand the characters and open up the problems. The film rushes towards the climax there are a lot of action sequences that come to the forth.
Vishal delivers really good performance in the lead role which has a lot of emotional balance to it and scope to perform. Raveena Ravi is impressive as Vishal’s sister playing a role that is not too easy to carry.
Rest of the cast do not have major entries into the story line but do a decent job with what they have in hand.
Musically Veerame Vaagai Soodum sodium is well equipped thanks to one’s chilling background score and the eclectic theme track which does big things in the climax action sequence. Cinematography and the editing are really good but it is the stunt sequences which could have been executed in a slightly better fashion as they feel a little bit usual and do not turn out to be as great as expected.
On the whole Veerame Vaagai Soodum is quite a likable and watchable action drama that could have had more skin in its narrative but it turns out to be a decent fare for those who love films in such genres. Veerame Vaagai Soodum Movie Review by Only Kollywood
