Vanmam takes on a single string of plot-line deeply intertwined with two friends Kreshna and Vijay Sethupathy. The movie is filled with ensemble cast to support the length of the story but leave the audience clueless as far as screenplay is concerned. Vanmam is altogether packed with romance, friendship, and emotions which are never new to the Tamil industry. Director Jai Krishna has attempted to make it count with his storyline but  certainly loses grip and command with his lengthy screenplay.

Vijay Sethupathy and Kreshna come in as Radha and Chelladurai who take life easy and portray themselves irresponsible at home. Kreshna falls in love with Sunaina, sister of Madhusudhan Rao (Rathnam) a big shot in the city who cares for his family the most and at the same time busy fighting with his rival Jaypee. Madhusudhan Rao appears in a cameo setting the plot and vanishes away in a jiffy. Kreshna and Madhusudhan Rao have their bad terms with Sunaina and it eventually becomes the reason to depart. Now Vijay Sethupathy takes charge, accidently stabs Madhusudhan and kills him unintentionally. With this incident Kreshna and Vijay Sethupathy depart breaking their friendship slowly for which the director takes a lengthy narration to put together the scenes, thicken the emotions and the guilt.

Vijay Sethupathy sheds his guilt and slowly takes care of Ratnam’s family to atone his mistake and he is accepted by the family who are unaware of the truth. He also carries his role with maturity and has done his part with pleasing expressions and action. Kreshna, longing and waiting for his love, falls bait in the wrong handsat Jaypee’s behest. Vanmam travels parallelly with friendship, family values and revenge all at a loud-mouthed approach leaving a wide gap for entertainment. Jaypee plays his cunning game on Vijay Sethupathy and Kreshna in a very predictable way but will make audience a little uncomfortable.

The supporting artists have come out with some good performances and have been the pillar for the plot with equal support from lead actors. The location is down south and cinematographer Bala barani has captured it aptly with his lens. Vijay sethupathy gets a rustic look with his dhoti-and-bullet giving him the local boy image perfectly. The romantic portions start and end in a glimpse for the star but Kreshna has taken it all with the newly paired sunaina. Albeit with all this support, the screenplay suffers from novelty; an ordinary plot with the middling songs make Vanmam an ordinary, one time watchable flick.
