Underwhelming!

After an 8 month-long hiatus, an underwhelming package is the last thing you would expect from a composer like Yuvan Shankar Raja.

  • Kongunattu Thendralukkum – A song loaded with festive exuberance and has a predictable, stale tune. And, wonderfully sung by Karthik Raaja and Venkat Prabhu. One wonders why the former decamps from singing or composing frequently. This track is reminiscent of ‘Adida Nayyandiya’ from Goa
  • Tharaimelae Irunthae Naan – One of the most expected songs in the album, thanks to the singer. Yuvan’s neat singing is evidently let down by a largely uninspiring tune, thanks to the minimal effort employed for the song
  • Thakaaliku Thavaniya – Looks like a typical village number added to elevate the story to the next level in the film. Except for the beautiful violin sound towards the end of the song, nothing adds up to the excitement
  • Viduda Ponnungale Venam Venam – Ever-likable vocals of Mukesh, quirky lyrics and a simplistic tune makes this one somewhat engaging, though not impressive
  • Manasu Ingae – A short and lovely track sung by Manicka Vinayagam – pitch-perfect from the veteran singer. The song’s transition from western to nadhaswaram-ish arrangements is innovative. Vintage Yuvan! Our PICK of the album
  • Vaangamma Vangappa – Another passable track in the album. Though foot-tapping, the song never really works well, thanks to the reasonably middling tune
