Vaadivaasal update incoming: Vetrimaaran breaks silence at Bad Girl event

As Vaadivaasal readies for a long-awaited update, Vetrimaaran confirms Bad Girl will be Grass Root Film Company’s final production.

At a recent press meet in Chennai for the upcoming film Bad Girl, director Varsha Bharath was joined by producer Vetrimaaran, cast members Anjali Sivaraman, Hridhu Haroon, Shanthi Priya, and others. Notably, filmmaker Mysskin also attended and used the occasion to speak about Vetrimaaran’s long-awaited film Vaadivaasal, starring Suriya. Drawing parallels with Ponniyin Selvan, he expressed his anticipation for the film, calling it a potential milestone in both Vetrimaaran and Suriya’s careers.

Responding to the excitement, Vetrimaaran confirmed that official updates on Vaadivaasal will arrive in the next 10 days but refrained from sharing more due to “technical reasons.”

In a surprising reveal, Vetrimaaran also announced that Bad Girl would be the final production under Grass Root Film Company, citing the growing pressures producers face around censorship and public perception.

Bad Girl, co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, is Varsha Bharath’s directorial debut and recently won the NETPAC Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2025. The film features music by Amit Trivedi and stars Anjali Sivaraman in the lead.
