Vaa Vaathiyaar Postponed: High Court stay halts Karthi’s film release

The release of Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar has been temporarily halted after the Madras High Court ordered the producer to clear financial dues, prompting a sudden postponement.

In a major setback for fans and the film’s team, the anticipated Vaa Vaathiyaar, starring Karthi and directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy, has had its theatrical release postponed following a legal intervention by the Madras High Court.

The film was initially earmarked for a December 5th release and later rescheduled for December 12th, generating excitement among audiences keen to catch Karthi’s latest outing. However, just days before the planned premiere, the High Court issued an order staying the film’s release until unresolved financial obligations are settled.

According to the court’s directive, Vaa Vaathiyaar’s producer, Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, must clear outstanding dues amounting to over 21 crore owed to a financier before the movie can be released. Despite previous opportunities to address the debt, the court noted that the payments had not been fully repaid, prompting the stay order.

The injunction bars the film’s release in theatres or on any digital platform until the full loan, which has ballooned due to interest and delays is settled or otherwise addressed through legal means. While the producer had offered partial repayment and collateral proposals, the court rejected these, stating creditors had been given ample time to recover their money.

Vaa Vaathiyaar features a strong ensemble cast alongside Karthi, including Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Anandaraj, Rajkiran, and others, and had completed its censorship process with a UA certificate. The trailer and musical numbers had already built significant buzz, adding to the disappointment over the sudden postponement.

With fans and industry observers now awaiting clarity on how the situation will evolve, the fate of Vaa Vaathiyaar’s release hinges on the producer’s ability to resolve the financial dispute. The team has not yet announced a new release date.
