The team of Thaai Kizhavi came together to celebrate the film’s theatrical success at a grand success meet held on Friday. Headlined by Radhikaa Sarathkumar and directed by debutant Sivakumar Murugesan, the film produced by Sivakarthikeyan Productions in association with Passion Studios, has emerged as one of the surprise commercial successes of the year, grossing over 50 crore worldwide.
The film’s strong word of mouth and family audience reception played a key role in its box office performance, prompting the makers to host the celebratory event. Several members of the cast and crew shared their experiences and reflected on the journey behind the film’s success.
Director Sivakumar Murugesan spoke emotionally about his cinematic journey and acknowledged producer-actor Sivakarthikeyan’s support. He recalled entering cinema inspired by Kamal Haasan’s Virumandi and said that working today in Kamal Haasan’s office alongside the Seyon team felt like a deeply personal milestone in his career.
Radhikaa Sarathkumar highlighted the film’s commercial achievement, pointing out that Thaai Kizhavi managed to collect around 50-60 crore despite maintaining affordable ticket prices averaging about INR 150. She noted that when viewed objectively, the film’s performance stands strong even when compared to big budget releases that were priced significantly higher, calling it the film’s true measure of success.
Sivakarthikeyan, who backed the project as producer, shared insights into his involvement with the film. He revealed that he had listened to the story multiple times, regularly followed the shoot, and watched the completed film nearly a dozen times. The actor added that he now intends to adopt a similar level of involvement in projects he stars in going forward.
The event also witnessed an emotional moment when Sivakarthikeyan recalled the film’s premiere night, sharing that director Sivakumar’s father hugged both of them after the screening – a moment that made him feel as though his own late father was still with him.
On the professional front, Sivakarthikeyan also announced his next production venture under Sivakarthikeyan Productions. Following the success of Thaai Kizhavi, the banner will introduce another debut director, Ammamuthu Surya, with a youthful entertainer whose script is currently in its final stages of development.
