Tamil Nadu theatrical rights of Jana Nayagan sold for all-time high in Kollywood!

‘Jana Nayagan’, the much-anticipated film starring Thalapathy Vijay directed by H Vinoth, is all set for a grand theatrical release on January 9th, 2026, aligning with the festive Pongal weekend. Touted as one of the most awaited Tamil films of the year, the film is already creating massive buzz in trade circles.

In a significant development, reports suggest that the Tamil Nadu theatrical distribution rights for Jana Nayagan have been acquired for a record-breaking price, marking the highest ever for a Tamil film to date. While an official confirmation is awaited, industry insiders point to Raahul of Romeo Pictures, the distributor behind Vijay’s recent film The GOAT as the one who has clinched this landmark deal.

Adding to the excitement, there were earlier speculations that the first single from Jana Nayagan would be unveiled as a special Diwali treat for Vijay’s fans. However, sources close to the project indicate that the chances are slim, as the actor-turned-politician is currently dedicating his time to visiting the families affected by the Karur tragedy. Any promotional activity, including the release of the single, is expected to resume only after the situation settles.

In addition to the Tamil Nadu rights, it is also being reported that Raahul has secured the Kerala theatrical rights of the film. With Vijay enjoying a massive fan base in the neighbouring state, trade analysts predict a potential record-breaking performance at the Kerala box office as well; specially since Jana Nayagan is being positioned as his farewell film from cinema.

With an extended 10 day Pongal holiday window, Jana Nayagan is poised for a strong box office run. It will enjoy a solo release for five days before facing competition from Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, which is scheduled to release on January 14th, 2026.
