Ajith Kumar’s much-awaited AK64, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, is reportedly set to be backed by Sun Pictures. While an official confirmation is still awaited, strong industry buzz suggests that the leading production house is likely to bankroll the project after several delays stalled the film’s progress.
The collaboration between Ajith and Adhik was announced last year following the success of Good Bad Ugly. However, the film has not yet gone on floors, leading to speculation about the reasons behind the delay. Reports now claim that mounting production costs and Ajith’s remuneration made it difficult for several banners to take the project forward, eventually paving the way for Sun Pictures to step in.
If the deal materializes, AK64 will mark Ajith Kumar’s first collaboration with Sun Pictures after Mankatha, which the banner distributed during its theatrical release in 2011. The production house has recently been associated with several big-ticket projects including Rajinikanth’s Coolie, Jailer 2, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s DC and Allu Arjun’s Raaka.
Though plot details remain under wraps, Adhik Ravichandran had earlier hinted that AK64 would be different from Good Bad Ugly. According to the filmmaker, the upcoming venture is planned as a stylish action entertainer with a strong screenplay that also appeals to family audiences.
Ajith was last seen in Good Bad Ugly, which marked his first collaboration with Adhik Ravichandran and emerged as one of the notable Tamil releases of 2025. The film featured an ensemble cast including Trisha, Arjun Das, Sunil, Prasanna, Priya Prakash Varrier and Jackie Shroff.
Meanwhile, Ajith is also gearing up for Gladiators, a feature film based on his racing journey and achievements with his motorsport team.
