Subaash, director of Chatriyan and writer of Chennai Express, passes away

Writer-direcor K Subaash, well known for writing and directing the evergreen classic Chatriyan starring Vijayakanth, Banupriya and Thilakan, breathed his last in SRM Hospital, Vadapalani, after battling renal problems. He was suffering from renal problems. He also directed Ajith’s Pavithra and Nesam during his formative years in the industry. He spent his last few years writing scripts for Bollywood films including the Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone-starrer Chennai Express, and Akshay Kumar, Abishek Bachchan’s multi-starrer Housefull 3 to name a few.

Popular writer Shridhar Raghavan, one of the screenplay consultants of Ajith’s Yennai Arindhaal, took to Twitter to share his memories with Subaash. “Writer director K Subaash passed away this morning in Chennai. He wrote Chennai Express, directed 20+ Tamil films including Chatriyan. Subaash was associate to Mani Rathnam in his Agninakshatram & Nayagan phase. Later with Raj Santoshi. Easily the best writer I ever met. But more important, Subaash was also among the best people I ever knew. Gentle, humble, honest & funny. His cremation is today evening,” posted Shridhar in a series of tweets.
